Environmental Monitoring Officer/Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer

Would you like to apply your technical expertise whilst living in a region ripe with outdoor adventure opportunities? Do you have at least 3 year’s experience collecting hydrological and other environmental data?
Based in Richmond, the Tasman District Council are seeking an experienced person with a practical can-do attitude to join the Environmental Monitoring team. The team is focused on collecting accurate data across a range of programmes and projects to support Council and the wider community to live in balance with the environment. We collect scientific data from a range of environments including, groundwater, rivers and lakes, sea level, water quality and meteorology.
You will learn (or already have), the skills to manage the design, construction and operation of monitoring assets in addition to managing data and operating electronic equipment (e.g. data loggers, remote control boats, drones). This role will have equal amounts of field and office-based work so you'll also carry out data processing, quality assurance, and have involvement in data analysis. Your eye for detail will ensure your data input will be accurate to support Council’s efforts in resource management, water allocation, compliance, engineering design and flood warning - with information being used both locally and nationally.
We work in a variety of environments and terrains which can be physically demanding and challenging, so you need to be a strong swimmer, confident around rivers and comfortable working at heights. This role would suit someone who enjoys the outdoors, likes working both autonomously and within a team with good problem solving skills and initiative.
We are open to those wanting to deepen their experience, or those who are exceptionally skilled in the field, with remuneration appropriate to level of competency.
Climate and lifestyle are some of the major factors for people choosing to live and work in the Tasman District. If you love the great outdoors, the Tasman District provides plenty of outdoor action, great wines and food, and a beautiful coastline for you to enjoy.
