Our dedicated Science and Environment team is focused on delivering science-based environmental programmes to protect and enhance Nelson’s environment.

We are pleased to offer this new opportunity for an Environmental Technician to join the team. This role will contribute to the collection and management of water quality, hydrology, and air quality environmental data. You will also contribute to the running of the Council’s state of environment monitoring data archive and telemetry systems. You can expect approximately 60% fieldwork and 40% data management.

You will be an enthusiastic professional with experience in environmental monitoring fieldwork and data handling. Ideally you will also have experience with the monitoring requirements of a local authority, and have experience using Hilltop, Hydrotel and GIS Software. You will have a practical nature, be comfortable in the outdoors, and be able and willing to undertake regular, and occasionally on-call, fieldwork in all weathers, including rivers and reservoirs.

Finally, you’ll have a relevant qualification in this field.
