The opportunity
Auckland’s coast, rivers, streams, lakes and groundwater are an integral part of what Aucklanders value in our region. Be at the forefront of helping sustainably manage Auckland’s fresh waters for future generations!
We have a fantastic fixed term opportunity until end of April 2023 for a Senior Scientist to join us. The short duration of the role will see the consideration of both highly experienced and developing candidates to step into this senior-level position.
Based in Auckland CBD, this role sits in the Hydrology and Environmental Data Management team in Auckland Council's Research and Evaluation Unit (RIMU), responsible for monitoring and reporting on Auckland's freshwater environments.
You have the ability to extract the story from hydrological data, and can use that knowledge in guiding council’s work in water allocation. You will play a key role in building council's evidence base as we implement the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management.
About you
Having completed a post graduate degree or equivalent qualification, ideally in hydrogeology or hydrology, you will apply your in-depth understanding of hydrological sciences to the emerging issues in water allocation. You have the ability to provide robust technical review in this area and communicate complex information effectively to a range of audiences.
We will value your excellent collaboration and inter-personal skills, as you will be working with council-wide teams to better inform decision makers and activities in our region. An understanding of State of our Environment monitoring programme design, and the need for programmes to work synergistically, is desirable.
What we offer
We offer you the opportunity to be part of the dynamic and supportive RIMU environment teams - a collective of highly skilled professionals who are passionate about the preservation of Auckland’s environment. Joining RIMU is great for your career and professional profile as you will continue to develop strong networks across the council group and the environmental sector.
See Knowledge Auckland for a repository of RIMU’s published research, information, analysis and data about Auckland's communities, economy and environment.
