Our main office is based right in the centre of the region, under the Maunga (mountain), in Whakaahurangi (Stratford).

Mō te tūnga | About the role
If you have a practical approach, intuition, and a passion for river management and flood control, we are keen to hear from you even if you have limited experience. We are able to adapt the role to suit the skills and experience of the successful candidate. The Council will provide training and development opportunities to the right candidate to support a move to the full Rivers Manager portfolio over time.
The Rivers Manager will be responsible for the Council’s river and flood control activities, functions and responsibilities. In this integral role, you will undertake investigation, analysis and reporting of engineering matters; particularly river control works, flood protection and mitigation measures. The Rivers Manager will also provide river and drainage technical advice in relation to consent and compliance matters and in response to requests for advice from landowners.
Mōu | About you
Ideally the successful candidate will have experience in river management, and a recognised tertiary qualification. You will be able to demonstrate proven technical skills and have the ability to think and solve engineering related tasks, as well as be able to navigate legislation and regional plans in as far as they relate to instream activities. Your experience should include contract and project management and the ability to solve on the ground problems and communicate technical solutions and information simply.
We like to set people up for success so you’ll be a leading applicant if you also have:
Prior experience with the RMA and regional plans
Practical Knowledge of hydrology and open channel flow
