NIWA – Hydrologist

We are seeking an early career Hydrological Scientist to contribute to research and consulting projects in a range of hydrological activities including modelling, flow estimation and forecasting, and decision-support for water resources management. Specific projects will range from the development and use of catchment-scale surface water and/or groundwater models to regional-scale water-allocation planning as well as including making research advances in our national flow and flood forecasting tools. This position will offer exciting opportunities to work on multidisciplinary projects with a wide range of NIWA scientists and stakeholders from national and regional government and the private sector. We are seeking a team-player with a positive, proactive, and problem-solving attitude, who is enthusiastic about contributing to hydrological science in New Zealand. The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in hydrology or related subject
    Have excellent analytical skills

  • Ideally some field work experience

  • Preferably a working knowledge of hydrological tools and water management practices and policies currently used in New Zealand.
