Science Technician


Are you keen to apply your technical or practical skills to the collection and management of data for Canterbury’s significant groundwater system?

Our Groundwater Science field team uses modern instrumentation, telemetry, and data systems to collect, manage and report a large amount of groundwater level and quality data.  We are looking for a Science Technician to contribute their enthusiasm and practical or technical skills to the monitoring of Canterbury’s groundwater.

About the Role | Kōrero mō te tūranga

Based in our Kainga depot, this role will involve working alongside our technicians to collect data for our long-term monitoring programme and for specific investigations. This will include assisting with the installation of monitoring sites and the maintenance of equipment and instruments.

You will be required to follow procedures to ensure robust data collection and data management.  You will liaise with landowners and members of the public regarding monitoring site access and data provision.  There is also a great opportunity to help deliver projects that drive our data collection forward to achieve more efficient processes and better data quality.

To be successful in this role it is desirable that you can demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques

  • Experience with the operation of instruments or electronic equipment

  • Practical electronics or construction skills

  • The ability to identify, investigate and resolve issues

  • A positive, collaborative, and inclusive attitude
