With its extensive groundwater resources, Environment Canterbury is at the forefront of water management in New Zealand. As a result of recent staff movements and an increased budget, we have three vacancies in our Groundwater Science section. Canterbury has extensive groundwater systems, and Environment Canterbury is at the cutting edge of water management in New Zealand. This is an opportunity for you to join one of the largest groundwater science teams in the country and help us understand and manage this precious resource.



About the Role | Kōrero mō te tūranga

We are inviting applications across a range of levels, including Science Analyst, Scientist and Senior Scientist. Please see the attached Job Descriptions for more details. Working closely with the rest of our team (we have 21 groundwater professionals), you will help us address challenging issues including land use effects on groundwater quality, sustainable groundwater allocation and the implementation of the Essential Freshwater programme.



About You │ Mōu


We need groundwater scientists with:


  • Solid technical background and suitable academic qualifications in hydrogeology, groundwater chemistry or a related field

  • Ability to interpret scientific data and tell the science story to decision makers and the community

  • Strong scientific curiosity

  • Good verbal and writing communication skills

  • Friendly, collaborative nature


The indicative salary range is $60,000 to $110,000, dependent on your experience and qualifications.
