Exciting opportunity to lead the Aquatic Ecosystems team work programme comprising: freshwater, marine, coastal and estuarine.


We currently have an exciting opportunity for someone with a high level of knowledge and experience across freshwater, coastal and marine science domains to join our team and actively work towards enhancing the experience of living and working in a sustainable region.


As a Team Leader - Aquatic Ecosystems you have a post-graduate qualification in a relevant science discipline backed by significant experience, and the ability to successfully lead your team to enhance science capacity to meet our strategic objectives. You will effectively build and maintain positive working relationships and be confident presenting complex ideas and concepts to various audiences, adapting the information as required to ensure your message is delivered effectively. Your systems-thinking ability will allow you to work effectively with various teams to contribute and develop innovative and robust solutions to complex issues.


This role will require the successful applicant to lead a small team in the development and implementation of science, research and monitoring strategies, and facilitate improved scientific knowledge across our organisation and the wider community. You will effectively monitor, investigate and report on the state of Southland's water resources and establish sound quality assurance procedures as required. You will maintain current awareness of national and international science in relation to the freshwater, coastal and marine areas and will provide an accurate and expert source of technical advice for our organisation. The ability to provide sound leadership and direction to project teams will also be required.


To be successful in this role you must have proven technical abilities, be able to effectively manage competing priorities, and produce work of a professional standard in an accurate and timely manner. As a leader you will foster a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes engagement and a culture of high performance and you will be motivated by the opportunity to mentor and develop junior staff.

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $ $91,970 - $102,790.
