Job description:

Plan, lead and coordinate the varied operational procedures required for the monitoring, collection, analysis and reporting of information relating to water resources in Tasmania.

As a Senior Hydrographer, you’ll plan and coordinate operational procedures for the monitoring, collection, analysis, and reporting of water resource data across the state. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and innovation of our water data systems.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Operating the NRE Tas time-series database “AQUARIUS”.

  • Maintaining streamflow and groundwater station infrastructure.

  • Carrying out repairs to hydraulic civil structures and electronic water monitoring equipment.

  • Providing specialised and authoritative advice on water quantity issues.

Hours per fortnight


73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).


Desirable requirements


  • A Diploma from a recognised TAFE institution, or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work. Civil Engineering or Surveying qualifications highly regarded.

  • Unrestricted driver’s licence.

  • Ability to swim.

  • Drone and GNSS data acquisition and processing capabilities.

  • Swift Water/Boating training.

  • A current First Aid certificate.
